Below are job descriptions for FIGMENT Oakland open curation positions. Please contact us if you're interested, at [email protected].
The FIGMENT Oakland Curation Team is looking for individuals interested in volunteering their time to discuss art, interactivity, and community building with our artist pool. Part outreach coordinator, part artist advocate, and part creative mentor - these positions revolve around introducing artists to our event and walking them through the process of submitting, building, installing, and deinstalling art at FIGMENT Oakland. Estimated commitment is 2 to 6 hours per week from opening the call for participation through the event. Work is mainly email based with some face-to-face or video chat meetings as well as occasional outreach field trips. While we're especially interested in filling the below positions, we'd love to talk to anyone with an interest in creative cross pollination and local community building.
FIGMENT is an all ages event and we want to ensure that our youngest participants are served by a variety of age appropriate art installations, performances, and activities. Are you a parent, educator, curator/event organizer, or artist with a special interest in child-centric art? Then we'd love to talk more about how puppet theaters, children's rock bands, and bike decorating workshops, can be used to best to engage with this important demographic.
Do you believe that technology driven art is so much more than mere Arduinos and blinky LEDs? Technology is driving so many cultural changes in the Bay Area and we want to showcase the best, most interactive pieces from this important aspect of our local arts scene. The driving question behind this position is: "What kind of tech-based art would you showcase in a daytime, all ages event with limited power and a diverse pool of attendees?" If you find answering that to be an inspiring challenge we'd love to talk to you more about this curation position.
Do you take a broad, cross-genre approach to the performing arts? Does the idea of working with Shakespearean monologists, clowns, dance troupes and slam poets interest you? FIGMENT is looking for TWO Performance Curators to help curate theatrical and dance performers at our November event. What does this entail? Working together with the Music Curator to fill 5 to 6 hours of content on the main amphitheater stage as well as wrangling mobile performances and site specific performances on our main lawn. Requires thinking outside the stage, finding artists who enjoy the challenge of performing in an outdoor setting, and collaborating with your fellow curators to create a coherent schedule of performances for the event.
How deep, broad, and unabashedly curious is your love for music and the local music scenes? FIGMENT is looking for a Music Curator to help add some noise to our event. What does this entail? Working with the Performance Curator to fill 5 to 6 hours of content on the main amphitheater stage as well as wrangling mobile performances and site specific musical installations. Requires thinking outside the stage, finding artists who enjoy the challenge of playing in an outdoor setting, shepherding musicians through the FIGMENT process, and collaborating with your fellow curators to create a coherent schedule of performances for the event.
